Digital Transformation

Nowadays, the application of digital technology in all aspects of human society had led to a trend to transform businesses into digital.

Contextualization

How to upgrade organizations’ business from offline to online optimization?

Nowadays, the application of digital technology in all aspects of human society had led to a trend to transform businesses into digital. This transformation allows to upgrade organizations’ business from offline to online at various levels, such as the automation of processes and business optimization.

In the emerging fourth industrial revolution, the areas of IoT (Internet of Things), M2M (Machine-to-Machine) communications, Smart Domain Technologies (Smart Health, Smart Cities, Smart Transportation, Smart Energy), Wearables and Cloud Computing will impact the near future.

These areas take advantage of the increased miniaturization and capacity of mobile computing devices, innovative forms of communication (Low Power WAN's) and low power consumption, allowing the creation of new solutions to the connectivity of autonomous objects (IoT) and wearables.

The Digital Transformation has led companies to invest more in technology and business models to increase the competitiveness within the logic of the Digital Economy.

Big Data

Big Data refers to enormous volumes of data, which may include, in addition to internal company data, external data sources that affect business day-to-day. It refers to procedures to obtain, process, clean and analyze these data and its relation with internal data of the company, requiring a large computing power. It is an almost unlimited source of information that allows to get answers to questions that cannot be answered only with the internal and structured data of the company. Data that is more accurate lead to a better decision-making, which means more operational efficiency, reducing risk and costs. In addition, it enables to get a detailed view of the industry, business and potential customers.

Our Big Data solutions in this area include the Hadoop, Cloudera and Hortonworks platforms. Since what is relevant is not the amount of data, we use Analytics for statistical analysis to improve companies’ business.

IoT

IoT connects devices and objects in an intelligent and sensitive way and is currently considered a reality that allows the creation of distributed complex eco-systems, both physically and computationally, in which machines, computers and humans participate, being able to solve problems in the area of Health, Cities, Energy, etc.

The value chain of IoT can be defined by 7 phases: Smart Module, Smart Object, Connectivity, Platform, Software Customization, Applications and Customer.

The more recent IoT, M2M, LPWANs and Cloud Computing solutions and eco-systems are multi-disciplinary in terms of engineering, covering areas from embedded systems, communications (radio and internet), mobile applications and Cloud services.

PDMFC has the knowledge and skills to build and provide services at all levels of the chain of these solutions and eco-systems, namely:

  • Firmware development for embedded systems: ARM and PIC among others;
  • LPWAN Communications: LoraWAN and SigFOX;
  • Mobile apps: Android and IOS;
  • All infrastructure associated with Internet/Cloud Computing services: Servers, Database, Portals, Dashboards, etc.

At the R&D level, the company currently participates, based on the specific know-how of this area, in several European and Portuguese projects such as H2020, ECSEL and CATRENE, among others.

Mobility

Mobility is a world that contemplates both web and mobile development. Currently, the use of smartphones, tablets and other wearables is a reality with a tendency to grow more. Therefore, it is crucial for all organizations to consider it in order to optimize their business.

Design is a basic element for Usability, so it is extremely important for mobility’s success, since these two areas work simultaneously. User Experience is key: if the client does not understand how to use your app, he will not have a positive experience, affecting your brand image.

PDMFC has a consolidated experience in developing successful websites and apps, with a special focus on mobile and with a large expertise on HTML5. Our teams develop apps for both iOS and Android, focusing on the usability and the clients’ real needs, helping you to build your mobility path by increasing your app’s performance.

Design

In the Digital World, design is essential to provide the best experience possible through the many components that lead the user to be satisfied. The User Experience is about how people use the website and apps, and if the associated features enable them to do what they need in a simple and intuitive way. In order to achieve it, the process goes through doing user research, creating wireframes and prototypes, and conducting usability tests. In parallel, through the User Interface the designers create tools for people to interact and access content, namely through buttons, menus, slider bars, among others. Another important component is the Architecture, that is related to the website’s structure and how the content is organized. In addition, it is important to consider the Interaction Design that focus on the functionalities and the interaction between the user and the product, involving how things are animated. Visual Design transforms the company’s image and identity in consistent and functional products adapted for both mobile and web.

Essentially, with its multitasked team, PDMFC can develop all steps of your organizations Digital Product Design with a wide range of design expertise.
