Mobility

With the mass availability of low-cost internet connected computing devices (Smart Phones, PDAs, etc...) complementing a solution with mobile computing is now an afordable option.

Classical web solutions can now be complemented with sophisticated mobile interfaces, with complex computing and storage capabilities.

As a small examples, MGE (Mobile Group Expenses) is a small standalone MIDLET application which acts as a calculator for sharing expenses on a trip, and MM3 is a 3D maze game. Runnable on many Java enabled smartphones, it mostly demonstrates that games are not the only class of applications to be used on mobile devices.

If your data needs to be accessible on-line everywhere, and a small screen area is not a critical problem, consider using a WAP (or a very simple Web design) interface for mobile access. If a more user-interactive interface is required, consider using Java Microedition technology to allow for cross-platform mobile complex computing capabilities, taking advantage of the network connection where appropriate.
