Function file-extension

file-extension pathName

Retrieves the extension of a file name.

Parameters:

pathName - String representing a path name.

Returns:

A string representing the extension part of pathName.

The extension is the part of the path name following the last dot character in the base name of pathName. If the base name has no dot than an empty string returned.
